GroupALoop started out as a simple solution to an annoying problem. While at business school, I - and everyone else - found that we were losing track of what there was to do and who was doing what. Being good MBAs, we wanted to join in with the various study, sports, travel and social groups (i.e. parties!), or at least know what was happening. So after trying whiteboards, shared Excel spreadsheets and different online tools, I figured a simple, custom-made, web-based group announcement tool, based on Communities of Practice principles would do the trick.

A short while later, and indeed it did do the trick, with dozens of groups being formed online overnight and messages sent by the bucket-load. GroupALoop is a generalised, public version of that successful prototype. By solving our problem, we had discovered a way to make real-world groups much, much easier to manage than existing tools on the internet could do. We have brought GroupALoop to the general public to help suppport groups and community building of all sorts.

GroupALoop is part of Red Star Labs, an incubator based in London, UK, dedicated to developing novel tools for online interaction.
